GUARANA - Paullinia Cupana

Guarana (name given by the indigenous people) is an important legacy of the aborigine civilization to the well-being of humankind. Indigenous peoples, particularly the Maues, consider it a sacred plant. They would use guarana as a supplement when going out to battle. They would chew the seed in order to increase vitality when covering the long distances between villages. Embrapa (Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation) developed a research on the guaraná seed, where up to 6.2% of caffeine was present - a content four times higher than that of coffee, which explains the stimulating effect of the fruit.

Although it has gained fame in the world of medicinal plants for its stimulating power, guarana has long been studied - about 200 scientific publications in Brazil alone have raised other therapeutic properties of the plant. Its effects on the digestive system, for example, may be beneficial to the intestinal tract by acting as a regulator of the system.
